Dolby Vision 2 Rolls Out to Hisense: Which TVs Get It?

by Michael Sonnen | Sep 25, 2026 | News, TV Technology

Dolby Vision 2 has moved beyond trade-show demos. Hisense began sending it to select 2026 TVs through a firmware rollout announced on August 6, making those sets the first consumer TVs named for the new format. The practical question for owners is simple: is my TV actually on the list?

Quick answer: Hisense and Dolby name the 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 series for the initial Dolby Vision 2 rollout. The U7 is called U7 Pro in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Central and South America. These series are also named for Dolby Vision 2 Max. Availability reaches individual TVs in stages, so a missing update today does not automatically rule out an eligible set.

Here is what has been confirmed, what the upgrade changes, and how to check your own TV without confusing Dolby Vision 2 with the older Dolby Vision logo.

Which Hisense TVs Are Confirmed for Dolby Vision 2?

The joint Hisense and Dolby announcement identifies four 2026 model families. Both Google TV and VIDAA versions are included in the announcement, across a rollout covering North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. It does not provide a complete list of every regional model code, screen size, firmware build or delivery date.

UR9Dolby Vision 2 MaxCheck the exact regional model code
UR8Dolby Vision 2 MaxCheck the exact regional model code

*Hisense calls the series U7 Pro in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Central and South America. In the United States, the 2026 U7 range includes models carrying the U7SG suffix. The rollout announcement names the series rather than promising a particular update date for every U7SG size.

Has the Dolby Vision 2 Update Reached My TV Yet?

On August 6, Dolby and Hisense said the format was available on select Hisense TVs, with further firmware updates due over the following weeks. That establishes a live rollout, not a simultaneous worldwide switch-on. As of September 25, 2026, the public announcement does not give a universal firmware version or a per-model completion list that would let us verify every owner's screen from afar.

If your 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 or U7 has not offered a new update, check its exact model number and region first. Keep the TV connected to the internet and use its built-in system update function. A different owner receiving the update before you does not necessarily point to a fault with your set.

Do not rely on a Dolby Vision badge alone. Many older TVs display ordinary Dolby Vision content. That label by itself does not establish Dolby Vision 2 support or show that the new firmware has been installed.

Hisense U7, U7 Pro and U7SG: Why the Names Differ

The naming is easy to misread. Dolby and Hisense call the eligible family U7 in their worldwide release, and specifically add U7 Pro for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Central and South America. A U.S. shopper may instead see a 2026 U7SG model number. Those regional labels are a reason to check the full model code and year, not a reason to assume every TV ever sold with “U7” in its name qualifies.

In particular, the confirmation for the 2026 U7 family should not be carried over to a 2025 U7 or U75QG simply because its name looks close. Hisense has not named those older models in this initial announcement.

What Does Dolby Vision 2 Actually Add?

Dolby Vision already adjusts HDR presentation using information carried with the content. Dolby Vision 2 adds a new picture engine and Content Intelligence, which uses existing and new metadata to adapt the image to what is playing. A new intensity slider gives viewers a way to adjust the picture's depth and richness when room reflections or viewing angles make it look flatter than intended.

The confirmed Hisense families are slated for the more capable Dolby Vision 2 Max tier. It adds Light Sense 2 for adjustment to room lighting, more detailed picture controls, and Authentic Motion. The motion feature is designed to follow creative instructions on newly authored content rather than applying the same smoothing to everything you watch.

The useful distinction: An updated TV can use Dolby's new processing with existing Dolby Vision titles. Features that depend on newly authored Dolby Vision 2 instructions also need content made and delivered with those instructions. A firmware update alone cannot turn an old stream into a newly mastered one.

Will Existing Dolby Vision Movies Look Better?

Dolby says the new engine improves the presentation of existing Dolby Vision titles as soon as the update arrives. That is a manufacturer claim about the processing system, not a promise that every film or game will suddenly look transformed. What you notice will depend on the content, picture settings, display and lighting in your room.

CANAL+, iQIYI and Peacock have committed to using Dolby Vision 2's expanded capabilities. That commitment is encouraging, but it should not be read as a guarantee that every title in those services already carries the new metadata. Until more newly authored content is available, the immediate reason to install the update is the enhanced handling of material you can already watch.

What About Older Hisense TVs or the 2026 U8 and U6?

The announced first wave is specific: 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 and U7. It does not name 2025 Hisense sets, the 2026 U8 or U6, or every other Hisense TV that already supports standard Dolby Vision. That is an unconfirmed status for those models, not proof that an update is technically impossible or that Hisense has ruled one out forever.

Dolby Vision 2 involves both compatible TV processing and firmware. MediaTek identifies its Pentonic 800 as the first TV chip to support the format, but a chip announcement is not a substitute for a model-specific update promise. When shopping or troubleshooting, trust the exact model number and a direct Hisense support statement over a generic “Dolby Vision” line on a retailer's listing.

How to Check for the Update on Google TV or VIDAA

  1. Find your full TV model number. Check the TV's About screen or the label on the back, including its regional suffix.
  2. On Google TV, go to Settings > System > About > System update and follow the on-screen steps. Menu wording can vary slightly by software version.
  3. On VIDAA, open System Settings > Support > System Upgrade > Check Firmware Upgrade.
  4. Review the update information. If the TV finds an update, look for Dolby Vision 2 in its release notes or picture settings. If the details are unclear, ask Hisense support about your full model and region.

Google and VIDAA document those update paths separately. Hisense's U.S. firmware support page also accepts a product serial number. Use software intended for your exact TV; a file for another model or region is not a shortcut to the rollout.

Should Dolby Vision 2 Decide Your Next TV Purchase?

It is a welcome extra if you are already weighing a 2026 Hisense UX, UR9, UR8 or U7. It is a poor reason to ignore the basics. Black levels, HDR brightness, reflection handling, viewing angles and motion will affect every movie night and afternoon game, whether or not a particular stream uses the newest metadata.

Our advice at TelevisionCafe: buy the TV whose picture suits your room, then treat Dolby Vision 2 Max as an additional capability. Existing Dolby Vision content remains useful while services build out support for the new format. Dolby Vision 2 on Hisense TVs: Frequently Asked Questions

Which Hisense models are getting Dolby Vision 2 Max first?

Dolby and Hisense identify the 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 model families. The U7 is called U7 Pro in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Central and South America. The update is rolling out in stages, so timing varies by model and market.

Is the Hisense U7SG included?

U7SG is a U.S. model suffix used for the 2026 U7 series, which Hisense names in its Dolby Vision 2 announcement. The release does not list every U7SG screen size or specify when each individual TV will receive the firmware. Verify the full model and available update on your TV.

Will a 2025 Hisense U7 or U8 get the update?

No 2025 Hisense series is confirmed in the initial Dolby Vision 2 announcement. Ordinary Dolby Vision support on an older set is not confirmation of an upgrade. Check Hisense's support information for your exact model before expecting one.

Do I need newly mastered content to see any benefit?

Dolby says its new engine improves existing Dolby Vision titles on updated TVs. Features tied to the expanded Dolby Vision 2 metadata need newly authored and delivered content, so the benefit will vary by title and source.
